The Disaster Awareness and Emergency Response Committee (DAER) of the JBUMA is one of awareness and response to all types of disaster that affects members of the Baptist Constituency across Jamaica. Its aims and objectives are to:-
a) develop a greater sense of disaster awareness among members of the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) family
b) establish a state of readiness that enables the JBU to respond in a timely and efficient manner
c) formulate linkages with disaster relief agencies for the purpose of coordinating the efficient delivery of disaster relief.
To effectively carry out its mandate, the Committee assigns a designated representative in each Parish who liaises with a Circuit Disaster Representative to gather information for the Central Kingston Committee for emergency response and relief. Further, a Disaster Manual (click here) is available to all churches for the educating and equipping of members to better respond in the face of disaster.
The JBUMA is in the process of establishing a Disaster Agency that will; enlist and deploy volunteers, identify, store and distribute items of need after a disaster and offer timely suggestions in preparation for and awareness of disasters.
